Values voters from across America will gather in the nation’s capital for the Washington Briefing: A Call to Action on Oct. 19-21.People who attend will hear from presidential hopefuls, national leaders and authors on a wide range of topics of interest to conservatives.
RoseMarie Briggs from Maryland went to last year’s event and called it “inspiring.”
“It is so important for people across the country to realize they are not alone as they read the headlines and see what’s happening in our schools,” she told Family News in Focus. “The moral decline in our country is vivid.”
She said the topic that opened her eyes last year was Sen. Sam Brownback’s speech that detailed how Norway’s recognition of same-sex marriage led to 80 percent of children being born out of wedlock in some parts of the country.
“I was aware it was bad, but I didn’t realize it was that bad,” she said. “How can anyone turn a blind eye to the trends that are happening in Europe and not be concerned about the trends that could happen here in the U.S.?”
The October event will feature a straw poll of presidential candidates. All presidential hopefuls have been invited. Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family Action will be honored at a Saturday night gala at which Lee Greenwood will perform.
Confirmed speakers include Dr. Dobson, Jim Daly, Tony Perkins, Chuck Colson, Gary Bauer, Bill Bennett, former Sen. Rick Santorum, Bishop Harry Jackson, Dr. Richard Land, Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Judge Robert Bork, Phyllis Schlafly and Alan Sears.
Connie Mackie with the Family Research Council said topics this year will include religious freedom and radical Islam.
“The underlying theme is the culture,” she said. “We want the people to come, and leave the conference having more tools and more information on how to impact the culture in a positive way.”
